Qualitative Data Working Group (QDWG)

Qualitative Data Working Group (QDWG)

Purpose: The Qualitative Data Working Group (QDWG) is established under the Scientific Board of the DDI Alliance to support and promote the use of DDI products and standards among organizations, communities, and individuals involved in producing, handling, managing, sharing, archiving, and doing research with qualitative data.

To this end, the group will work on enabling ways for documenting and preparing this data type for reuse, and formulating recommendations on extending DDI products and standards to appropriately describe qualitative data.

The group will also promote these products through central portals (such as QualidataNet) to

  1. encourage wider distribution/ and

  2. get feedback from users.

The QDWG will explore options to represent both mixed data sets (quantitative and qualitative data) and purely qualitative data collections within the context of DDI.

Deliverables

  1. A report outlining the key challenges and recommendations for improving DDI products and standards for organizations that are involved in the production, dissemination or collection of qualitative data.

  2. Best practice guidelines and use case documentation for organizations that want to adopt DDI products and standards, and are involved in producing, sharing or collecting qualitative data.

  3. Contributions to the development and refinement of DDI products and standards, as appropriate.

  4. Outreach activities to encourage organizations involved in the production, dissemination or collection of qualitative data to become members of the DDI Alliance.
