Participants: ~8/9 people showed up :-), again no list :-(

1. Introduction

  • Participants introduced themselves, and Knut provided an update on the current state of the work.

2. API discussion

  • There is a clear demand for an DDI-API. In the next meeting we will look into the API specified for SDMX. Probably one would like to start with requesting a list of available concepts from an endpoint.

Participants: Brigitte Mathiak, Wolfgang Zenk-Möltgen, Dan Smith, Olof Olson, Alessandro Morchietta, Toni Sissala, Xiaoyao Han

1. OAI-PMH Recommendation

  • Knut introduced a draft retrieval section for the OAI-PMH recommendation. The group discussed challenges in identifying metadata types when accessing an endpoint using ListMetadataFormats (https://openarchives.org/OAI/openarchivesprotocol.html#MetadataNamespaces ). The properties metadataPrefix, schema, and metadataNamespace can be used to identify the metadata format (e.g., DDI-Codebook 2.5; DDI-Lifecycle 3.1, 3.2, 3.3; DDI-CDI).
There are valid use cases for having multiple metadataPrefix values, along with corresponding schema and metadataNamespace. The group agreed that no changes should be recommended for existing installations. Instead, guidance should focus on what constitutes best practice.
Knut volunteered to provide usage statistics for the next meeting.

  • Dan reported on an exchange with Knut regarding the DDI Agency Registry. Currently, there is no machine-readable list of agencies from which a list of known endpoints could be compiled. This could be a task for the next DDI developers’ hackathon (https://github.com/orgs/ddi-developers/projects/6 , https://github.com/ddi-developers/.github/issues/18 ).
Such a list would enable discussions on how different endpoints for OAI-PMH, FAIR signposting, and others should be recorded in the registry. At present, a record looks like this: https://registry.ddialliance.org/Agency?agencyName=us.dan

2. FAIR signposting Recommendation

  • Short discussion about the options to identify the relevant sitemap for landingpages (containing links to DDI metadata)

Participants: Approximately 12 attendees (Names not recorded. For future meetings, I propose that each participant makes a comment upon joining. Then I can compile a list afterwards.)

1. Organizational Matters

2. OAI-PMH Recommendation

  • Knut presented the drafted sections on “Minimal Use Case” and “Discovery.”

  • Dan suggested including the DDI Alliance registry and volunteered to draft a paragraph on this.

  • Knut will prepare the “Retrieval” section for the next meeting.

3. FAIR Signposting Recommendation

  • Olaf presented the drafted sections on “Discovery” and “Retrieval.”

  • Knut volunteered to draft a similar section for http://re3data.org and potentially for the DDI Alliance registry, focusing on how to locate sitemaps.

MIME Types Discussion:

  • Registration: The group discussed whether the DDI Alliance should register MIME types for DDI metadata—either one per product or one per product and version.
→ Knut will contact the Technical Committee to seek guidance on how to proceed.

Multiple Standards in RDF: The group discussed which MIME type should be used when multiple standards are included in a single RDF object.
→ No decision was reached. Currently, no metadata with such characteristics has been published.
