2025 The Provenance Chain: Connecting and Reusing Data, Models, and Experiments
Introduction and Topics
This provides a description of the proposed topics for the 2025 Dagstuhl workshop on the Cross-Domain Interoperability Framework (CDIF). CDIF is starting to be implemented in a numerous projects, and there are several areas which have been identified as important for near-term focus. The topics for the workshop are intended to contribute to these expansion areas of the CDIF guidelines, based in existing projects and more in-depth explorations.
While not a separate topic for the workshop, the CDIF guidelines themselves should be updated to reflect findings from the workshop in real time; that is, change requests should be entered into the GitHub repository in a controlled fashion by the editors of the guidelines as the workshop proceeds. In this way, there will be a guaranteed output for consideration by the CDIF Working Group as a whole (well-represented among the workshop participants). This effort does not replace the need for written outputs from the workshop on each of the topics, but serves as a supplement to them.
Having four topics is ideal for such a workshop, given the space available for break-out groups. The topics are:
Provenance, Context, and Quality (lead: Alexandra Kokkinaki)
CDIF-4-XAS Project (lead: Abraham Nieva de la Hidalga)
Data Access (lead: Darren Bell)
Metadata Mapping and Data Integration (lead: Luis Gonzalez)
