Definition in DDI L of a reusable data structure of Represented variables

Description

In our organisation, we are going to describe a catalogue of datasets, with dcat:dataset and dcat:distribution among others. We will have the equivalent in DDI-L for microdata, and we are trying to reproduce these two levels of description (dataset and distribution). The aim would therefore be to have a conceptual structure for a dataset that could be reused by several physical instances. This structure should encompass the variables represented, as in CDI or GSIM 1,2.

Currently, from the physical instance, we can access the logical record via the path RecordLayout/ PhysicalStructure / GrossRecordStructure/ LogicalRecord and with a logical record that encompasses variables (instantiated variables).

Should it be possible to describe a logical record at the level of the variable represented, as in CDI and GSIM 1.2? In this case, the logical record would be the reusable structure.

What if DDI L aligns more closely with CDI from physicalInstance by referring to an adhoc data structure?

Might want to think about this same issue with NCubes defined with variables as dimensions rather than the ability to use RepresentedVariables
