2019 Workshop on Interoperability of Metadata Standards in Cross-Domain Science, Health, and Social Science Applications II
Schloss Dagstuhl – Leibniz Center for Informatics, Wadern, Germany, October 7-11, 2019
The workshop is designed to focus on two dimensions in the interdisciplinary use of data and metadata:
- From high-level to detail: How to support discovery of data on the basis of a high-level description, and possibly also on more details like concepts related to observations and variables? How to support analysis of data across domains?
- From domain-specific to cross-domain: How can domain-specific data/metadata be transformed in a way that cross-domain approaches regarding discovery and analysis can be supported?
We propose to address those dimensions through the following topics, with a focus on application to two or three case studies. Each area will cover:
- Discovery of data by human and programmatic search.
- Description of provenance.
- Harmonization of domain-specific data and metadata for the purpose of building an integrated data repository for the purpose of a project.
- Preparation of the data/metadata for analysis.
- Publication of data (for secondary use).
This work will serve as the basis for a draft set of guidelines for cross-domain projects, to be promoted more widely. Both the specific projects and more generic requirements will be addressed.
