Role and Purpose of Group

The purpose of the Training Group is to:

  • Ensure that our goals align and build on the DDI Alliance Scientific Work Plan.
  • Introduce people to DDI and improve people's competence in working with DDI.
  • Promote deeper understanding of DDI’s work products by addressing specific topics.
  • Gear training to specific audiences as appropriate (for example, by beginning to set up training materials and events in languages other than English).
  • Develop expertise within the Working Group for carrying out training.
  • Maintain a training library with updated training material in languages other than English for reuse

DDI Training Community - Applied training. Anyone may submit their DDI training materials to this community.

Meeting Notes for current and previous years

Meeting Time and Connection Information

The Training Group meets every first Tuesday of the month at 9 am (EST) / 2 pm (UTC) / 3 pm (CET) / 4 pm (CAT/EET) using Zoom.

To join the meeting online please see agenda.

Use your microphone and speakers (VoIP) - a headset is recommended. Please set yourself on mute when you are not speaking to prevent background noises.


Ongoing actions

Actions which are not specific to each sub-group activities listed below

  • Alina DANCIU to add RDA slides to Zenodo.
  • Hayley Mills and Alina DANCIU to use mandate to advertise what we do and recruit new members.
  • Alina DANCIU to share a spreadsheet of the number of training requests received and their outcome
  • contact and set up a meeting to understand what CODATA RDA schools do/teach and what they would be interested in Jennifer Zeiger to ask Laura for any info about background for this.
  • Arofan to follow-up International Data Week’s SciDataCon 2023
  • Christophe to circulate a proposal ahead of the next meeting for the group to discuss. 
  • Arofan and Laura to organise a meeting with Alina and Hayley to discuss further the webinar situation.
  • TO subgroup (Jennifer Zeiger) to discuss and propose a face to face event in December (as the EDDI PC suggests) to the group. 
  • TO subgroup (Jennifer Zeiger) to lay out the list of known possible conferences and prioritise by this group (Jared suggests identifying audiences first, and find conferences to match second. This may expand reach to untapped conferences)
  • Getting started pages subgroup (Arofan) to draft recommendations/plan to discuss in this group and then to go the TC to sign off
  • Jennifer Zeiger to set up a spreadsheet to collate topic feedback, to be received by the group by the end of September, which should give enough time to plan for next year. 

  • TO subgroup (Jennifer Zeiger, Arofan and Laura) to organize an online webinar as a part of a “Come to EDDI” marketing pla taking into account feedback. 
  • Alina DANCIU to get in touch with EDDI local organisers/PC and pass on details to Jennifer Zeiger

  • Alina DANCIU to send Jennifer a list of contacts for trainers for in person training.
  • Hayley Mills to draft EDDI in person training abstract and circulate
  • Kathryn Lavender to draft questions to group members to ask if they would be interested in a side meeting at EDDI and share with HM/AD before sending to the wider group. 

  • Kathryn Lavender to draft a side meeting abstract to submit to EDDI. 

  • Hayley Mills to add conference list discussion to September agenda.
  • Hayley Mills to add item to agenda to discuss location of suggested training sets in the next the meeting in September.
  • Hayley Mills to add ESRA to conference list 
  • Alina DANCIU to send any feedback from Jon Johnson about FAIR to Kathryn if there is any. 

  • Alina DANCIU to publish French translations

  • Hayley Mills to send proposed questions to gather information about trainers to the group to receive feedback before Jennifer creates a survey to send to DDI user group at the end of September.
