Planned Webinars

Rich Metadata and Data Quality

Date

Tentative: November 21, 10 am EST

Presenter(s)

  • Moderator: Arofan Gregory

  • [Colectica – ]

  • [Simon Hodson]

  • [?]

  • Discussant: Alicia Urquidi Diaz

Content description

The most-reused data is the best documented, and DDI plays a significant role in this space. Data supports data reuse and enhances data quality from the researcher perspective.

  • Provenance, confident reusability

  • Good documented comparability (CLOSER, etc.) across data sets and waves, concordances

Q&A questions

Notes

Approach 1: We did a Data Quality webinar in the past (Quality Reporting Framework)

  • Intro can cover these bases (Arofan)

Approach 2: There’s an approach that says quality can only be assessed when you know the research question, data is either fit for it, or not (rich metadata dimension: statistical accuracy, etc.)

  • Colectica

Approach 3: If you’re an archive who wants an understanding of data quality. What metrics? FAIRness! Fair assessment metrics. What does this mean?

  • Simon Hodson?

Approach 4 (related to 3): Role of trustworthy repositories in data quality (via FAIR?). [maybe for a separate webinar in may?]

Technical connections to DDI Lifecycle, but it’s more general and can connect to all three standards.

  1. Welcome/housekeeping (Arofan, 5 mins)

  2. Introduction; Quality Reporting Framework (Arofan, 20 mins)

  3. Rich metadata to support data quality assessment (15-20 mins)

  4. FAIR assessment metrics as data quality metrics? (15-20)

  5. Trustworthy Repositories (15-20)

  6. Q&A - Alicia discussant (15)

Presenter(s)

[Proposed presenter(s)]

Date(s) proposed

Content description

This webinar would showcase how metadata-driven systems can be designed, and how rich, granular metadata can be used to drive processes rather than function as an output. Explores the possible future role of metadata in relation to emerging AI tools.
