Goals of the Workshop

Goals

  • Review of approaches of DDI 4 (see below)
  • Inter-operability with other specifications. We realize that users want to use multiple specifications, and that there is a partial overlap between specifications. Therefore:
    • Usage of DDI with other specifications should be explored
    • Integration of other specifications on the model or binding level
    • Description of partial overlap between specifications
  • Exploration of provenance in the production and publication of data
  • Interaction with messaging protocols and other platform technologies
  • Establishment of a basis for future cooperation between different specifications

These are similar goals as in the workshop of last year. The workshop in 2015 had a more explorative nature. This year, the intention is to be more output-focused in terms of documents which represent the achieved work. The documents can be the basis for common usage of multiple specifications, future cooperation, and refinement of DDI 4.

Motivation of DDI 4

  • Model-based and –driven approach
    • Better robustness and independence of a single representation
    • Multiple bindings (i.e. XML Schema for preservation and exchange, RDF for discovery, program libraries for processing)
    • Easier inter-operability with other specifications
  • Better coverage of data life cycle, and generalization of data sources and data description
