Lawrence Sprint, May 2017

Purpose

The Lawrence Sprint will focus on preparation of the DDI 4 (DDI-Views) Codebook Functional View for development review and overall model review and integration. The Simple Codebook Functional View is intended to be a much smaller subset of the whole DDI 4 model that is capable of containing the information contained in a DDI-Codebook (DDI2.5) instance. The focus of a codebook is the description of an existing set of data, providing enough information to make it discoverable, usable, and understandable.

Specific Tasks

Codebook Tasks

  • Evaluation of the DDI 4 Codebook Functional View in terms of facilitating the deposit of data in an archive
  • Create DDI 4 version of existing DDI-C instance
    • study level, variable, questions, source info
    • document issues including entry, serialization, documentation, etc.
    • Identify any gaps against DDI-Codebook (DDI 2.5)
  • Create DDI 4 Codebook Functional View specific documentation
  • Qualitative written assessment of the DDI 4 Codebook Functional View to accompany the official review
  • Discuss identification issue
  • Identify desired DDI Lifecycle functionality

Modeling Team and TC Tasks

  • Provision of a main document for DDI 4 providing a common understanding of the goals of DDI 4 based on current understanding. The audience for the document includes people involved with the Moving Forward Project, DDI Alliance members, and the public. This should be organized in a way that appropriate sections can be used as part of the high level Class Library documentation as as a common section for the high level document for each Functional View.
  • Review of package integration including where packages touch, how information passes between packages, how overview or strictly descriptive classes relate to more detailed/machine-actionable classes, and how this is expressed in Functional Views.
  • Perform a coverage and gap review between DDI 4 and DDI-Lifecycle (DDI 3), and DDI 4 and GSIM. Determine how this affects the on-going development of DDI 4 and DDI-Lifecycle (DDI 3)
