Positioning the DDI-CDI Model vis-a-vis Other Metadata Specifications and Ontologies

Introduction

  • DDI-CDI is designed to fill a gap in the metadata covered by other domain-independent standards, but the landscape of metadata standards, ontologies, etc. is a complex one

  • This group would positioning DDI-CDI in relation to other, similar models

    • Practitioners could understand intended purpose

    • Implementers know how best to employ it

  • Describe the various types and levels of ontologies and metadata models

    • Domain-specific

    • Domain-independent ones

  • Output is a draft white paper intended for metadata experts and implementers

Planned Deliverables

  • Document how we can communicate what CDI is and how it should be used, in terms of the standards landscape

    • Avoid conceptual modelling of specific domains, or of everything (ontologies)

    • May need to define terms for discussing the standards landscape (like Achim's layers)

    • Approachable document for wide set of audiences
